Vestry - All Saints' Church Stoneham, MA
Official Role and Responsibilities
The Vestry is the legal representative of the parish with regard to all matters pertaining to its corporate property. The number of vestry members and the term of office varies from parish to parish. Vestry members are usually elected at the annual parish meeting. The presiding officer of the vestry is the rector or priest-in-charge. There are usually two wardens. One warden leads the parish between priests and is a support person for the rector or priest-in-charge. The other warden has responsibility for church property and buildings. The treasurer and a secretary or clerk make up the officers of the vestry at All Saints. The basic responsibilities of the vestry are to help define and articulate the mission of the congregation; to support the church's mission by word and deed; to select the rector or priest-in-charge; to ensure effective organization and planning; and to manage resources and finances. (Adapted from: www.episcopal church.org) All Saints Vestry meets every month of the year expect in July. It is an honor to serve God and the Parish as a member of the Parish's vestry. Our members are deeply committed to the worship life of the Parish and to the activities of the Parish including pledging and giving of support in as many ways as possible, participating in special events including fundraising activities. Vestry members are expected to be role models for parishioners and examples of commitment to God and to the Episcopal Church and its expression in the life and mission of All Saints Church in Stoneham, Massachusetts.
